Mother's Day Mini Sessions

A few months ago, the Cornerstone crew was throwing around new session ideas, and our rockstar photographer, Karey suggested “Generational” sessions, showcasing a multiple generations of a family. As she spoke I realized— I don’t think I’ve had any photographs taken with my maternal grandmother in…the last 15 years, at least. So I called my Mom, and my Grandmother, and I posed the question— would you both be able to come in for a portrait session, the three of us together? I told them we’d share the images as samples, but we’d get to have some really fabulous photos taken. They both agreed, and my grandma found a spot on her calendar where she could make the trip down from Oakland, where she lives.

I asked Cornerstone’s favorite makeup artist, Carol, to come in and get us camera ready as a little extra treat, and then we set off for one of Peter’s favorite local outdoor spots, which is amazingly green this time of year.

The real magic came right at the end. Our videographer, Cailin, started rolling, and Mom and I asked my grandma to talk about stories from her life. I asked her about the house my great grandfather built, that she grew up in. She told us about an ornery ram they had for a time, who tended to head butt visitors (this his name, Mr. Butters), and how she met my grandfather. Most were stories we’ve heard before, but wanted to have recorded, but she surprised us a few times, and I’m so glad to have this memory recorded!

We’re excited to be offering Mother’s Day Mini Sessions May 1-4 at this very location. Your $30 session fee includes a 30 minute session, and you’ll be able to view your portraits on Saturday, May 6th—so you can have portraits in hand by Mother’s Day.
